Here at Northchurch Baptist we're a group of people from all sorts of backgrounds, but we believe we can learn from The Bible that Jesus of Nazareth lived and died
nearly 2000 years ago. The fact of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead has transformed our perspective on this life, and life after death.
But, we're concerned to express our faith in practical ways here and now. ![]() Northchurch Baptist Church Our weekly programme obviously focuses on Sunday worship at 10:30 am and 6:30 pm. There is a prayer team available at every church service and members will travel to pray for healing. Time is also set aside to pray for healing on a Wednesday during the day.
![]() A typical Sunday service During the week we meet together in Home groups for prayer and study. As a service to the community we run a weekly lunch club on a Friday for those who are elderly in Northchurch; there is an additional monthly lunch club on a Sunday for those who would be eating alone. We run a Parents and Toddlers group on a Thursday, and as children grow older not only are there activities for all ages on a Sunday morning at our services, but there are also midweek clubs for young people. What we believe must affect the way we are. So, we don't just exist for ourselves. We exist to please God in the way we live, and serve others. We have links with an orphanage in Zambia and The Jireh Home, a children's home in the Philippines. One of our members, Louise Barker, is working in Cambodia. As a Baptist Church we are not followers of John the Baptist. We are followers of Jesus Christ who is the ultimate authority in our church. Together as a big 'family' we seek to make decisions about the way we are organised. Christian Baptism is for believers who are publicly willing to let everyone know that they are following Jesus as Lord - the number one person in their lives. We have leaders who are appointed by the church itself. The Pastor works closely with the Church Leadership Team who help the Pastor give overall leadership and direction to the Church. We have good links with all the other Christian Churches in the town. We call ourselves the Association of Berkhamsted Churches. This group has been the catalyst for good things happening in the town. The local Hospice, the Hospice of St. Francis, grew out of co-operation between the churches; as did The Way Inn Christian Resource Centre. As a Baptist Church we're part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain which has around 150,000 members in this country, the Church is also a member of the Evangelical Alliance. World-wide we are linked with the Baptist World Alliance and membership is calculated as over 40,000,000. We are not alone! |
