What is a homegroup?
Homegroups are an opportunity for the church to meet in small groups. Homegroups are not an optional extra; they are an essential part of our life as a community. They provide an opportunity to share together in the study and application of the Bible to our daily lives, to pray together and to develop our personal ministries. How often do the homegroups meet? The basic pattern is that homegroups meet weekly in three week groupings, with one or two weeks break between each (depending on school holidays). The groups take a longer break over August. By working to such a pattern, we can ensure that church meetings take place without clashing with homegroup nights. We can also give homegroup leaders more frequent breaks from leading studies. How long does a meeting last?Typically a group will start at 8:00pm and finish around 9:30pm. By finishing at 9:30 the hosts can go to bed, and you can go home! What do we study? We try and promote variety in what we study; from video/DVD based resources to study courses to notes prepared by our minister that tie in to Sunday morning teaching themes. We want to encourage our homegroups to take seriously the challenge to apply the Bible to our daily lives. To this end we encourage everyone to reflect on Sunday sermons and seek a prayerful application of the message. Your small group is there to encourage you to do this. How many homegroups are there? We currently have six adult evening groups, one Wednesday lunchtime group, and three young people's groups: Monday evening
HG1: Anuran Wickramasinghe
Tuesday evening
HG4: Nick Graham
Wednesday afternoon
HG6: Leader TBC Wednesday evening
HG7: Martin and Dinah Warner How do I join a homegroup? If you are not in a group and would like to join one then please let Steve Brehm know (Tel 891632) and you will be placed in a group which meets on a night most suitable for you. On the other hand you may know a group that you could join, or rejoin because it's been a while since you went. In that case talk with the group leader and ask if you can join their group. Be considerate, their group might be at its limit and so they might have to say no, so don't put them under undue pressure. |
